JohnSte says, "I'm doing it because I was tired of just teaching first year courses with occassional second year courses thrown in."

JohnSte says, "Personally? Not all that much. around USD30,000"

JohnSte says, "My school pays most of the cost - close to USD60,000"

Maggi [guest] says, "have to work 30 months then to break even"

JohnSte says, "I should finish by December - otherwise in May."

JohnSte says, "If I don't finish, I have to pay back everything the school has paid for my studies."

JohnSte says, "Only to the extent that I put the stuff into practice. But remember, I started several years ago (1994)."

JohnSte says, "I'm taking about my PhD, Juani. I actually started teaching at the University over 22 years ago."

Michael [guest] asks, "So you've been at the same uni for that long?"

JohnSte says, "Yes, I have been, Michael. Before that I was with the Department of Education (intermediate and secondary schools)."

JohnSte says, "I've been teaching for close to 30 years total."

Michael [guest] says, "A veteran."

Juani [guest] says, "that alot of work and experience...."

JohnSte says, "It is a lot of work. And that is only teaching."

Michael [guest] says, "I guess I've been teaching about 17 years."

JohnSte says, "Just 17? You're a lot younger than me, too, probably."

Maggi [guest] says, "I've done teaching the longest"

Juani [guest] says, "good for you that want to get the PHD..I like people who try to improve and learn all the time"

Michael [guest] says, "I think so John. And i started late. I was a drifter."

JohnSte says, "Thank you, Juani. I started late, too, Michael. I worked in other jobs before teaching. Ying, how are your plans for your trip to New York."

Juani [guest] says, "Ive also taught almost all my life"

JohnSte says, "A person who doesn't like teaching won't stay in the profession that long."

JohnSte asks, "Ying, How are your plans for New York coming along?"

Maggi [guest] says, "I love it but I am not cut out to be an academic"

JohnSte says, "It is very interesting, Ying."

JohnSte says, "There should be many language clubs."
