(7) What keeps us together?
that's what we'd like to know, and what others can learn from us
Basically, the community engages its members in motivating, communicative, and authentic interaction. Language learning activities are purely constructivist and utilize other community members in the zone of proximal development. The members of the group contribute to each other's projects and goals and make and keep commitments to one another.
One example of such activities were organized by Arif Altun in Bolu Turkey and Yaodong in Liuzhou PRC, on the dates below ...
On all occasions, photos were taken in both Turkey and China and shared among all participants in the chats. Web cam screen shots were taken on the October occasion. Many of these are posted at the above web sites.
A reunion of the Turkish and Chinese classes took place one week later on Nov 7, 2001, at the 2nd Annual Teacher to Teacher Conference in Abu Dhabi. Those attending the presentation were able to interact live with the students in each location. A link to an archive of this event will appear here shortly. In case you want to look for it later, the address will be: http://sites.hsprofessional.com/vstevens/files/efi/chat2001/wfw011107.htm
A final word on e-moderation.
Now that you have had a taste of ICN (Intuitive Chaos Navigation) you might enjoy this video presentation.
It's a 3 meg download, but to me it pretty much illustrates what e-moderation is all about ...
Thanks for attending this presentation, and if you're free any noon Sunday, GMT, stop by and see us at the url's below ...
