MaggiE joined a group in college called Warm Touch. She wrote us about visiting an orphanage with this group.
My Experience (November 15, 2000)
When I entered this university, I joined a special group there named " Warm Touch." This is a group which helps different kinds of people who need help. We separated into different groups. One goes to see the orphans (I joined this group). Another goes to see the elderly who have no families. I thought from the beginning that it would be very meaningful, so I joined it.
I have learned a lot in this group. Some people just showed up one time and then disappeared forever. But some people have joined in all the activities in their 4 years at the university. Just like someone said, it's pretty easy to do one good deed. But it's hard to do good deeds for a long time. Then I promised myself, I would joined all the activites of this group. I reasoned that if I decided to join this group, then I should do what was required. If I couldn't, then I should not join it.
The first time I met the orphans I was a little sad, because most of them are girls. And there are a few boys, but most of the boys are disabled. And I was feeling pretty sad when I thought they would spend most of the childhood in that place with so many children without any families. How could their parents do that? How could they leave their children behind and just go away? Most of the girls' parents had wanted to have a boy and then after they had a girl, they just threw her away. I couldn't imagine that. So it's lucky to be a normal person.
When I came back, I read some material written by other old members. One of them said we were doing nothing to help others, we just spend a very little time in our life to do something we should do......
regards,
Maggie
