Syllabus for
2007: Multiliteracies for Collaborative Learning Environments
Course Content: 7 Event Cycles |
The 2007 rendition of this course follows fast on my Sept 8 appearance
at the Virtual Strand of the EuroCALL conference, where I addresssed the issue
of aggregation of content on the Web 2.0:
http://www.pageflakes.com/vancestevens/13493912.
The week before that I was in Egypt speaking on much the same topic:
http://tinyurl.com/398bnw. All this
followed on my work this past year with the WritingMatrix project,
http://writingmatrix.wikispaces.com/,
culminating in a series of lectures this summer on applications of aggregation
techniques to writing: http://www.vancestevens.com/writing.htm.
While intensely channeling innovation, ideas, and development into these
projects, I have evolved my thinking on multiliteracies and revised my approach
to this topic slightly beyond the focus of previous years.
- The course is conducted on three day event cycles; that is,
- Each Monday and Thursday -- an event or task or assignment set
- Each Tuesday and Friday -- study, reflection, response,
suggestions, feedback
- Each Wednesday and Saturday -- threaded discussion of current
topic
- Each Synchronous Sunday -- a synchronous chat: Drop by
Tapped In before or after 13:00 GMT to
meet Vance and other course participants in informal text-based conversation.
Register at Tapped In for free or join in
as a guest. Opportunities for experimentation with other voice and video CMC
tools will be pursued as well.
see how to figure out what time 13:00 GMT is where you are.
- Other synchronous events are scheduled as they come up; details
here: http://www.vancestevens.com/online_events.htm

for further details
Topics for the last week:
For more about how feeds of feeds can be aggregated in a process called
Newsmastering, see:
http://www.slideshare.net/vances/robin-good-syndicaat/
Topic one: Let's see how we can locate each other's blog postings
and share social bookmarks
Del.icio.us - Have a look here:
http://del.icio.us/vancestevens/pp107tesol
Technorati:
- To see how it's SUPPOSED to work check this:
http://www.technorati.com/posts/tag/writingmatrix
- We've all been tagging our posts pp107tesol but nothing shows
up here: http://www.technorati.com/posts/tag/pp107tesol
- WHY NOT??
- There is a nut here we have to crack. I notice that everyone has
been tagging posts pp107tesol (except btw Jim .. you have to go back and edit
and add the tesol at the end of your tags). However, Technorati is not picking
up a single one of these. WHY NOT??? I've written them and asked. So far no
response, and this is a real project for us. Why don't we aggregate on
Technorati?? There's a project for this group. If someone can crack it I'll
count it as a critique.
Topic two: I'm very curious about the videos offered by ElderBob
here: http://portfolios2007.wikispaces.com/ElderBob
- Have a look at as many of these as you think are interesting
- Below the videos, make annotations
- I've had a look at a few. I'll put in some annotations.
Graduation
I have set a minimum requirement for certification which is given at
the portfolios HOME page: http://portfolios2007.wikispaces.com/.
There it says:
If you are going for a certificate from TESOL here, your portfolio on
your page should include *
- Your personal introduction started on your page
- Links to your blog with postings tagged pp107tesol, and other
artifacts produced for this course *
- A thoughtful critique of at least TWO resources encountered in this
course (please check other participants' pages so that you critique items not
selected by others in this course
The course runs until Oct 7 and at some point after that I need to send
Srisucha at TESOL a list of those who have met the minimum requirements, which
I have set myself, and which we can negotiate if you have something else in
mind. In that case, just write me personally. So if you haven't done your work
by Oct 7 but intend to meet whatever requirements we agree to you just need to
let me know when you plan to meet them so that I will know when to let Srisucha
know who to award certificates to.
