On February 14, 2001, Vance met up with Ming on ICQ and found out a little about her plans and interests. Ming said we could put this on her web page:
Ming: (4:16 PM) busy, busy, busy......
Vance: (4:16 PM) hi ... doing
what?
Ming: (4:17 PM) class assignments.
Vance: (4:17 PM) When do you
graduate?
Ming: (4:17 PM) might this coming fall term.
Vance: (4:18 PM)
with an MA?
Ming: (4:18 PM) no, BS, I think
Vance: (4:19 PM) in
what?
Ming: (4:19 PM) can I add you in my list? since I damage my pc last
few weeks....
Vance: (4:20 PM) sure, send the request
Ming: (4:20 PM)
CIS; I am still thinking about change to Macs(Math & computer science) or
take MAth as a minor
Vance: (4:21 PM) and then what will you do?
Ming:
(4:23 PM) find a job first. If later get a chance, I want to keep working and
find the way for studying in school. Just a plan
Ming: (4:23 PM) how's your
teaching?
Vance: (4:23 PM) So you will stay in Oregon? Is your family
there?
Ming: (4:25 PM) I might stay here for OPT, but later it depends
where I can get the job. My family is not here but my mom support my decision.
It's a good chance to do that before I go back to my country. I do not think I
want to spend my whole life in USA.
Vance: (4:25 PM) actually I don't teach
except online. I used to teach (for 20 years). Now I am responsible for
computer use at a language school.
Vance: (4:25 PM) That would be good to
stay in Oregon a while. Where is your mom?
Ming: (4:27 PM) that still take
a lot of time to do. I have a parttime job on campus(I am a monitor), This
page(the center I worked for) might can help you a bit for language
teeaching.
http://babel.uoregon.edu
Ming: (4:27
PM) Taiwan.
Vance: (4:28 PM) Which part of this page do you like best?
Ming: (4:29 PM) ummm, might be visual language. That help self study a lot
Vance: (4:30 PM) virtual language at http://babel.uoregon.edu/YLC-AV/ ??
Ming: (4:31 PM) yap
Vance: (4:32 PM) so you study the Atlas books?
Ming: (4:33 PM) no
Ming: (4:33 PM) do not have time to do that
Vance:
(4:34 PM) oh, which part of this page do you like?
Ming: (4:34 PM) the
design
Vance: (4:36 PM) oh, do you mean you designed this page?
Ming:
(4:39 PM) nop; I did not do web coding job for our center; I just like their
design, it's more considerate the user part and is a friendly GUI, I think.
Vance: (4:39 PM) ok, I'm going to have to run. I actually do go and run, btw.
Do you mind if I put this chat on your web page to help others get to know you
better?
Ming: (4:40 PM) since you say you help school the language learning
on computer, I thought that might give you some idea.
Vance: (4:41 PM) yes,
of course. Do you think I can make the Webheads pages look like that? Would you
like to help?
Ming: (4:42 PM) I do not think people can know me better
through this chat; I just introduce the page I did not make abit effort at all!
But, if you want to put it to some page, that's fine to me.
Vance: (4:43
PM) ok, you mention your studies and your plans and also steer students to an
interesting site. thank you. I've got to go home and get ready for my run. Nice
talking to you.
Ming: (4:44 PM) yap; but you need to have a plan first.
What's the main prosal for this page, what functions you want to implement?
what references we can put it on? ......those is the things before starting to
code it.
Vance: (4:44 PM) Well, you know the webheads pages. What about
starting with just your page? Then you could help do others.
Ming: (4:44
PM) that's my pleasure that can contact with you again. =)
Vance: (4:45 PM)
ok, bye now
Ming: (4:46 PM) my? the things is, I have no idea in my mind
what kind of thing I can put in my webhead page.
Ming: (4:46 PM) see you
later. ^-/
Ming: (4:46 PM) again. ^-^/
