Meet the people in the chat today
Vance | Maggi | Michael | Ying Lan | Moral |
USA | Germany | Australia | Taiwan | China |
and our friends Sophie from Cyprus and Marina from Italy
We had a very interesting chat tonight, very lively, with Ying Lan starting old hippies Vance and Maggi off on what it was like to be young back in the '60's. This got us on the topic of Nixon and American presidents and their popularity in the world (differing opinions from different countries). When Reagan came up we started discussing the topic of Alzheimer's (Vance almost started a rumor about Reagan, as you can see when you read the logs). Marina raised the most interesting, or at least the most unusual, topic in connection with her recent travels to Libya. Moral came to the Palace and had some pizza with us before joining us in the Hear Me voice chat in order to be with the group. Even though he had no sound card or microphone, he was able to keep up with the conversation by text chatting there. Sophie too had people over at her house and found it more convenient to text chat at Hear Me than to disturb her gathering with our chatter. For this reason, the Hear Me chat was rich in text chat. We ended the conversation sharing urls showing pictures of the houses where we live, and Marina and Vance found that they are both scuba divers.

Vance: Sorry, I've got so many fingers going. Moral is back.
Ying: I just need to be a listener..

Ying: Or just to be a listener.
Ying: This afternoon, I watched HBO,.. movie titled "The 60's"
Maggi: if she asks give your opinion
Ying: Do you think you were influenced with The 60's.
Vance: Again, talking to Moral in the Palace. Difficult to be in two places at once, three including my office.

Ying: Are you an anti-war when you were in college?
Vance: Definitely
Ying: what?
Ying: A little confusion?
Vance: communism
Vance: Yeah, people who went to the war were not considered heros in America at the time.
Vance: So when they came back they were very dissatisfied.
Vance: What was a problem in America at that time?
Ying: The retired solider is a social problem in USA at that time?
Ying: When they came back...
Vance: Yes, retired soldiers, veterans
Vance: Also Nixon was a big problem
Ying: Nixon problem...
Ying: Nixon President.
Vance: Drugs were recreation (now they're a problem)
Vance: The way people think in America has always been a problem.
Vance: Look at the president and vice president candidates now. Some choice, huh?

Vance: And rebelling against the system included going against the system of strict morals of your parents, or in my case grandparents
Ying: It is bad time, they can not go to bed easily because AIDS?

Michael: Maggi said I have Alzheimers because I couldn't remember where Marina was from!
Maggi: he doexsn't really have it...yet....

Maggi: doing what?
Michael: Mostly Internet stuff. Like this.
Maggi: especially men approaching 50...use it or lose it...
Moral: alzheimer is a weird English word.
Maggi: named after someone
Michael: It's actually a German word. who knows the origin?
Ying: What is alzheimer?
Maggi: name of the guy who discovered it
Ying: I can not find it in dictionary.
Moral: I can not either.
Ying: It's the name of place.
Vance: President Reagan just died of Alzheimer's
Michael: I bet there are lots of websites about it.
Michael: Reagan died?
Ying: name of disease.
Michael: I didn't hear that.
Ying: Reagan died?
Moral: Ying. It is the diseases that empty people's memory.

Vance: Did he die, Maggi? Or am I spaced too?
marina has left
Maggi: I don't think so
Moral: I don't know Reagan is dead. Is that sure?

Vance: That got us started.
Sophie: oh, which movie was that?
Ying: 60's
