What students feel about
Writing for Webheads

Part 3: Open-ended questions

In February 2000, Michael and I conceived of a plan to poll the class regarding what they liked and thought could be improved with Writing for Webheads. The plan had three parts:

What follows is responses to the third part of the survey.

First of all, after agreement with Vance on wording, Michael sent this message on February 27, 2000

Dear Webheads,

Thanks for all your help so far in helping us write about the webheads class.

Now we need your help just ONE MORE TIME - promise! Please help us by answering the following

questions and returning the answers to us.

Please fill free to make your answers as short or as long as you like. Any answers will help us a lot! The more information we have the easier it will be for us to do the presentation.

If you don't want to answer all the questions, that's fine. Just answer the questions you want to.

QUESTIONNAIRE

Please answer these five questions however you think best ...

Here are the collated responses:

2) Why did you join the class?

I am kind of an English learner freak. I love this language and I was looking for a place where I could improve it 'cause in my city there were no native speakers or something with a good degree to teach me. - Felix, February 26, 2000

Because I hadn't had enough chances to practise English before joined it. - Moral, February 27, 2000

The voice chat in MC's homepage. In English what I am most looking for is to improve my speaking. - Felix, February 26, 2000

Sorry I don't know what I can say about this question. - Mari, February 29, 2000

5) How does it help you to learn English?

It helps me a lot. When I have a doubt I turn on my computer quickly and send Webheads teachers an e-mail and the cool part is that I get the response in a flash. In Webheads I've learned so many things like behavior, culture around the word, new words, expressions to name a few. And what it's wonderful about our community is that we can learn the things I mentioned above in English, that way we are "killing the rabbits with the same bat". - Felix, February 26, 2000

It helps me learn English by getting my works corrected and providing me a nice place to practise English. - Moral, February 27, 2000

I don't know, maybe find a new English word.  - Deden, February 27, 2000

Teachers find my mistakes and correct them. - Ying Lan, February 28, 2000

Email is a good way to improve the skill of my writing. And I can study some better expressions from the teacher or other people. - Eileen, February 28, 2000

At first, opportunity of reading English is increasing. Next, my writing is checked by teachers online. - Mari, February 29, 2000

The grammer, a lot of questions of other students, was my questions to. Sometimes is details, but everything helps... - Denilson, February 29, 2000

i) By comparing my writing and corrected one by teachers
ii) By looking at English questionnaires and answers (They are practical and English books seldom mention about them) - Choi, February 29, 2000

1) When did you join the Webheads class? And
6) Why do you stay in the Webheads community?
