(7) What keeps us together?

that's what we'd like to know, and what others can learn from us ...

Basically, the community engages its members in motivating, communicative, and authentic interaction. Language learning activities are purely constructivist and utilize other community members in the zone of proximal development. The members of the group contribute to each other's projects and goals and make and keep commitments to one another.

One example of such activities were organized by Arif Altun, on the dates below ...

• He brought his Turkish CALL students to a Webheads class May 27, 2001:http://sites.hsprofessional.com/vstevens/files/efi/chat2001/wfw010527.htm
• He arranged a return visit October 31, this time in conjunction with a class from Liuzhou, China: http://sites.hsprofessional.com/vstevens/files/efi/chat2001/wfw011031.htm
• His students wrote out their impressions of the event: http://saa.ibu.edu.tr/altun/ogr.html

On all occasions, photos were taken in both Turkey and China and shared among all participants in the chats. Web cam screen shots were taken on the October occasion. Many of these are posted at the above web sites.

A reunion of the Turkish and Chinese classes will take place during the current presentation, and those attending the presentation will be invited to interact with the students in each location.
