From Vance's email, Nov 16, 2001: "First of all, welcome Eric, our newest Webhead (we always welcome new Webheads). I've only met one other Webhead in person, but I've had the opportunity to work with Eric often since last May when he helped us stream my presentation from Cyprus, and I met him again in Netmeeting for the Teacher to Teacher conference (right after our presentation Nov 7). Eric organized the ELToc Conference where we presented again Nov 11."
A further note: Eric was present at our Writing for Webheads presentation at ESADE in Barcelona using the HearMe Voice Presence plugin, July 2, 2000: http://sites.hsprofessional.com/vstevens/files/efi/ch00070h.htm
Eric replies, same day, November 16, 2001 ...
Hi Vance and all,
Thanks very much for the introduction!
As you say, we've worked together on a few online projects already. I've been teaching English online for about 5 years now, the last of those with our online language school, NetLearn Languages (www.nll.co.uk). We primarily use NetMeeting since that gives us audio and a whiteboard, both of which we find are the best tools around for online teaching.
For about a year or so we've also been involved in holding online conferences - whereas the language teaching is one-to-one or small groups, online conferences allow speakers/presenters/lecturers to address hundreds of people online at the same time, like you did at the ELToc. We think it's a big step forward since it allows people to exchange ideas with fellow professionals without having to pay lots of money for travel and accommodation in order to take part in a face-to-face conference.
You can read more about the sorts of things I get up to at http://www.ericbaber.com where you can also find a photo (which is in need of updating!!) I look forward to learning more about the sorts of things you Webheads get up to! All the best |
