VanceS: Hi all
JuanaAB: Hi Vance.
VanceS: Hi Juana, long time no see
VanceS: nice to see you here
VanceS: you're back in the states?
JuanaAB: yes,I was disconnected on weekends.
JuanaAB: Yes,I have been here for a year.I just finished school in NJ.
VanceS: were you studying or teaching?
ChristinLo joined the room.
JuanaAB: I was teaching ESL and Spanish.
VanceS: and what are you going to do now?
JuanaAB: I will go back to Chile on vacation and come back to VA.
VanceS: to virginia? what will you do there?

JuanaAB: They are in Chile.I have not seen them since September.
JuanaAB: I am flying next Thursday 23.
VanceS: I'll bet you can't wait
DennisOl: Have a wonderful time, Juanita!
JuanaAB: Yes,I am excited about seeing them again.
JuanaAB: Gracias.
DennisOl: No hay de que! How long will you stay there?
JuanaAB: It will be winter for me again.
VanceS: This is Juanita's webheads page:
http://www.homestead.com/prosites-vstevens/files/efi/juani.htm
JuanaAB: I will stay there for two months.
JuanaAB: Thanks.Vance.The thing was I could not log in with my previous nickname
so I had to sign as anew member. And that happened to me many times .
DennisOl: What a wonderful Webheads page, Juani! I enjoyed skimming through it!
DennisOl: Two months will be a very nice visit.
JuanaAB: I will write something to add .Thanks Dennis.
DennisOl: Yes, please do, Juani.
DennisOl: Many of my students have the same "two first names, two last names"
problem, Juani.
VanceS: there's more
VanceS: here's a pic of Juanita and her son Marcelo on Feb 14 here:
http://www.homestead.com/prosites-vstevens/files/efi/chat2004/chat2004.htm
JuanaAB: Yes ,two months. And as it is so cold in the south where I live,I have
plans to go to the Atacama dessert and some paces with warm weather in the North
of my country.
VanceS: you can scroll down to Feb 14
DennisOl: Nice photo! How old is Marcelo, Juani?
JuanaAB: Marcelo is 23 now.He is about to be done with t he University.
DennisOl: What is he studying?
JuanaAB: Comunicacion Audiovisual in UNIACC
DennisOl: Wow! That fits in perfectly with the interests of the Webheads!
JuanaAB: www.Uniacc.cl is the University
of the Comunications for South America,Yes ,and he speaks English, too.
DennisOl: You must be very proud of him, Juani!
JuanaAB: I have learned many things from him.Yes I am.
JuanaAB: I was reading you are from Phoenix,AZ.I was there once on the way to
the Grand Cannyon.I remember the palm trees and the hot weather.
DennisOl: I think it's amazing that the younger generations view computers, the
Net, and technology in general very differently than, say, someone my age.
=============================================
VanceS: as long as we have an august group here may I
ask what you think about a conference in November
RobertWB: Is that when GLD is?
RobertWB: Or is it in OCtober.
VanceS: no, we sort of decided to be separate from GLD
VanceS: participate in GLD of course
AidenY: what conference. V?
VanceS: but then have our own converence
RobertWB: But they are not in the same month are they, Vance.
VanceS: I've been talking it up among individuals
RobertWB: Convergence...now thats a nice term for it.
VanceS: I'm pulling up my calendar pages
DavidWe agrees with Bob
VanceS: ok, here's one
DavidWe smiles
VanceS:
http://www.geocities.com/vance_stevens/conferen.htm
RobertWB: I really dont care when it is...Ill be there at least virutally.
VanceS: venny is partipating in this one ETA: English Teacher Association
conference in Taipei Nov 11-13,
VanceS: is anyone going to ACTFL? CLaire?
ClaireB: yes i am
AidenY: I'll be in ETA, too
BeeD joined the room.
DennisOl: Hi, Bee!
BeeD waves to all
AidenY hugs Bee
RobertWB: Hi Bee, you are up early.
VanceS: I need venny to be free because he'll be managing our moodle
Maggi hugs Bee
VanceS: ACTFL 2005 in Baltimore, 18-20 November 2005
ClaireB is going to actfl because in Baltimore, and she loves crb cakes!
ClaireB: hello Bee
BeeD: I had trouble opening the chat
ClaireB: crabcakes
BeeD: had to go to several rooms before gettting it working
BeeD: Hello Dennis...good to see you here with us
VanceS: early November is Eid Al Fitr in the Arab world
VanceS: everyone's on holiday
DennisOl: Thanks, Bee.
VanceS: Hi Bee
BeeD: Hi Vance
VanceS: and we need to avoid thanksgiving
VanceS: same reason
VanceS: when is thanksgiving btw?
ClaireB: is it good to have it when everyone is on holiday, or does that make it
bad?
BeeD: What is the conversation all about?
DennisOl: I remember an incident in Irving connected with the Eid Al Fitr.
ClaireB: november 24
ClaireB: about when to have a conference
RobertWB: or a convergence.
BeeD: for the webheads online?
Maggi: fourth Thursday in November
DavidWe: Bonjour, Bee. Ca va?
BeeD: Bonjour David..ça va bien
DafneG hugs bee
BeeD hugs Dafne back
VanceS: I was just reviewing emails from Andy, Jonathan, and Eric Baber
VanceS: all are supportive at this time, but earlier in November best for ANdy
VanceS: he anticipates events late november
VanceS: so I'd suggest two days over 14, 15, 16, 17
MichaelGst2 left the room (signed off).
BeeD: and October? I remember Elizabeth mentioned November might interfere with
the Evo moderation
VanceS: 16, 17 best for me
VanceS: she did
BeeD: Saturday and Sunday?
VanceS: but we can't possibly get consensus
RobertWB: so shoot for convergence.
VanceS: yes, exactly, a conference at this time could support EVO
VanceS: be a part of it
BeeD: Right. What would be the theme? And who would it be for?
VanceS: not elizabeth's responsibility
RobertWB: Podcast the whole thing so if you cant be there, you can be there
later.
VanceS: I think the theme would be a flowery expression of what webheads were
doing
VanceS: basically it's a showcase of where we're at
VanceS: it's free btw
RobertWB: If the webheads got really interested in Podcasting, would they become
Podheads.
Maggi: lol
BeeD . o O ( I am right now cropping some flowers I just photographed for my
Flickr group )
AidenY: sorry, a phone call distracted me, where is this conference agaiin?
VanceS: maybe we can podcast our conference
VanceS: the conference will be held at (presenter's choice) Alado and LT
VanceS: both are aware the other is involved
VanceS: both have offered support
DafneG . o O ( updating pages for the EVO training session )
VanceS: I've just finished teaching and can write some emails for a week
RobertWB: and now that there is an Aussie version of LT...can we add them too.
VanceS: and I'm ready to set a date, so that's what I'm bouncing off you
BeeD: November sounds ok for me
DafneG: for me too
VanceS: it's not ideal for everone but it's ok for me
DennisOl: I think you just have to go ahead and set the date, Vance. As you said
earlier, "there will never be consensus."
RobertWB: That would allow for an around the clock confernence and make a great
connect for our asian friends.
VanceS: Venny has agreed to host the moodle, we'll register through that
AidenY: is this both synch and asnych?
DafneG: we can have our EVO trainees attend the conferece as part of the
training ;-)
BeeD: BTW....there is an incredible new space on the web...maybe we could use it
as well
VanceS: 17 and 18 are my weekend
VanceS: 16 and 17 would do fine too
VanceS: that's wed thu
RobertWB: Which one is that Beed.
BeeD: Elgg
VanceS: Sat Sun doesn't fit between those two conference
ClaireB: same weekend as actfl, but I suspect that there is internet in
baltimore, lol
RobertWB: I have not heard of it.
DafneG: thursdays are really bad for me, teach all day
BeeD: just launched
BeeD: I cannot make it on weekdays either
DavidWe: Usually there is Internet in Baltimore
BeeD: teaching the whole day on Thursday and
BeeD: Friday
DennisOl: http://elgg.net/ "Personal Learning
Landscape"
BeeD: very very nifty
BeeD: We could create a webhead blogging community there :-)
VanceS: 15 16 would be right in the middle but I teach both those days
VanceS: but I can be active at night
RobertWB: Got it Dennis.
VanceS: my night is your day
RobertWB: Thanks BeeD
VanceS: so ..
DennisOl: "Elgg is an electronic portfolio, weblog and social networking system,
connecting learners and creating communities of learning."
DavidWe . o O ( Day for Night? )
BeeD: 15 and 16 is very difficult for me
BeeD: 15 is Thursday?
RobertWB: I think this slipped by before...but now that there is a LT in
Australlia, why not have it round the clock.
RobertWB: Engage the folks in Austalia and Asia.
VanceS: if we did it Fri Sat it would be 18 and 19th
BeeD: this sounds maybe better
RobertWB: Start at 6:00 PM and end at 6 PM.
DafneG: better for me
VanceS: that would compromise, one day from each of our weekends
BeeD: because in Asia it would be Friday night ,Saturday and Sunday
VanceS: Claire will be impacted in Baltimore
VanceS: are you presenting there claire?
RobertWB: I dont understand BeeD
VanceS: presentations can be any time, day or night
BeeD: they are 12 hours or more hours ahead of us
ClaireB: yes but that is just one hour
RobertWB: Im only suggesting 24 hours.
VanceS: and they don't have to be one after another
VanceS: and they could go an extra day or two
VanceS: we're not time bound
VanceS: in fact
RobertWB: Right and if parts of it are asych...then what difference does it
make.
VanceS: we just have to set a date for abstracts etc
VanceS: so we can make a program
RobertWB: and let the asian members make some pressentations on thier time
schedules.
VanceS: exactly
AidenY: like GLD
RobertWB: That way everyone gets to get involved.
DafneG: August should be the deadline for abstracts, I think
RobertWB: Yes Aiden, like GLD>
VanceS: presenters can propose times and we'll schedule them in
VanceS: I'm thinking to call it a beta conference
RobertWB: I still want to make sure that you saw my comment about the Aussie
Learning Times...
VanceS: a dress rehearsal for the real thing next year
VanceS: keep the pressure off, learn how to do it
VanceS: record the steps
BeeD: are you going to invite other presenters?
DafneG: Webheads in Action Beta Online Beta Conferece?
DennisOl: All good ideas, Vance.
AidenY: what's the real presentation next year?
DafneG: only one Beta
BeeD: WABOBC
DavidWe: Wow!
BeeD: sounds bizarre
DafneG: he he
DavidWe smiles
RobertWB: Wow, its named after me.
DafneG: WiABC
RobertWB: waBOBc
DavidWe gets it
DavidWe: You're right, Bob!
RitaZ joined the room.
ClaireB: hi rita
RobertWB: Hi Rita.
ClaireB hugs rita
DavidWe wonders if he can pose a technology audio/video question
BeeD hugs Rita in Spanish
VanceS: it's all real, just don't wnt to get people up tight
DavidWe waves to Rita
JuanaAB joined the room.
RitaZ hugs all friends!
VanceS: it will be great
DavidWe: Hola, Rita. Que tal?
DafneG: WiABCO
VanceS: Hi Juanita
DavidWe waves to Juanita
DafneG hugs Rita
JuanaAB: I am back
RitaZ: hola, Dave! bien, y tu?
BeeD: OCWiA
DennisOl: Hi again, Juani!
DafneG: wb, Juani
ClaireB: hi juanita
VanceS: I like WiABCO
DavidWe: bien, gracias
DavidWe wonders if he can pose a technology audio/video question
VanceS: ability or permission?
RobertWB: Pose.
JuanaAB: Hola..que se cuenta?
DafneG: Rita gave a wonderful presentation for my architecture students on
thursday
DavidWe: What's the best way to stream audio/vidoe from a conference out to
anyone who wants to see what's going at a conference in Philadelphia
DavidWe: Cool, Daf.
DafneG: about the Parana Bridge in Rosario, Argentina
DavidWe: bagel, coffee, Rita?
RitaZ: Daf is such a good leader....;-))
DavidWe is having a 2nd breakfast
VanceS: Eric Baber, who has been engaged as a consultant for our conference, has
streamed his own conferences before
VanceS: you have to hve a streaming server first of all
DafneG: brb, will give my dad a hug
RitaZ: yes, DAve, please, a donut?
VanceS: for example Windows Media server
DavidWe: donuts?
VanceS: that's what costs money
DavidWe: Okay, I'll have to go and get them
JeffLe: Use Shoutcast is 'essentially'
free and widely accessible
AidenY: WiABeta Online Conference
RobertWB: But you can podcast it, virtually for free.
AidenY: get what, Dave?
VanceS: the encoder which presenters need to run in order to generate the remote
streams is free
RitaZ: uhhh, i can do with a virtual bagel...;-) thanks
VanceS: and the player for all to receive the streams is free
DavidWe: I don't need this to be high quality, just so people who can't be in
Philadelphia can mostly hear (and maybe see) what's going on...
VanceS: the server is where the money is
BeeD: and what is this encoder?
DavidWe: Then they can ask questions in chat or TappedIn
DavidWe: donuts, Aiden, for Rita
AidenY: like what Vance did in TESOL?
RobertWB: and there is a VOIP device that can handle up to 56 people on a aVOIP
call...and record it at the same time.
DavidWe . o O ( for some reason she would like a donut )
JeffLe: Worldbridges would be glad to make its server available.
VanceS: excellent
DavidWe: Quicktime Broadcaster is available on Macs to send video, I believe
AidenY takes a donut (the one with lots of filling)
RitaZ . o O ( lol )
VanceS: there are so many resources in Webheads
DavidWe: Alternatively, I was going to see about using Alado
RobertWB: IceCast is Opensource.
JuanaAB: That sounds interesting.
DavidWe listens
RobertWB: I have some question about sending video.\
AidenY: haven't heard of Icecast\
JuanaAB: I remember we experience Alado once
VanceS: I'm reading about donusts and servers here
DavidWe: So, just using a web cam or two and having the remote people "talk"
back to us in chat or TI
RobertWB: Seems to me, that not many will be able to see the video.
DavidWe needs to SERVE the doughnuts to the high-tech crowd here
RobertWB: and that is very bandwidth expensive.
RitaZ: lol, dave
VanceS: the encoder is a free download from MS that allows anyone to stream
audio or video out
ClaireB desperately wants a doughnut
DennisOl: http://www.icecast.org/
VanceS: it works for one or two people in the stream
DavidWe: I'm happy for slow to static images (pictures) but having audio would
be good
AidenY: if we use LT, we would be able to see the video
RobertWB: A few random webcams would maybe be more useflu.
VanceS: if yuo want more in your stream that's where yuo need a server
DavidWe hands Claire a coupon for a dozen Dunkin' Donuts
DavidWe nods to Vance
ClaireB: ty david
AidenY: is icecast any good?
DavidWe: Yes, it's just not worth setting up a server for this
DavidWe: I don't expect more than 5-10 "remote" viewers
DavidWe will look at icecast.org
DavidWe: Thanks, Dennis
DavidWe bows to all
DavidWe: Thanks for your input
DennisOl: My pleasure, David.
DavidWe: NECC is happening in Philadelphia starting Monday, 27 June
VanceS: Jeff has been patching in audio and streaming it out through his server
past few sundays at around 1400 gmt
DafneG: you can use Alado and have a webcam embeded on a web page, David. That's
what Andy does
DavidWe . o O ( National Education Computing Conference == NECC )
RobertWB: Icecast is the open source version of Shoutcast.
DavidWe nods to Daf
DavidWe: Yes, that's what I was thinking
DavidWe: I just learned about Quicktime Broadcaster and need to see what it can
do
JeffLe: ...and I'm going to play with streaming video later today.
DavidWe nods
DavidWe: SOunds good
DavidWe: I actually have a friend at the public television radio station in
Philadelphia who might be able to help me with server access, at least
temporarily
JuanaAB: I haven't been able to use them this year. But in Chile I always use
chat and video.
DavidWe nods to Juana
DennisOl: Quicktime Broadcaster:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/
DavidWe: Thanks, Dennis. I know the web site. I have to play with the software
and see what it is like to both send and receive
RobertWB: Dennis, do you still have to have a streaming server?
DavidWe has some homework to do
RobertWB: The streaming server is where the cost comes in.
RitaZ will do the same homework and learn sth
VanceS: what i have in mind is letting presenters decide where they want to
present
DavidWe nods to Bob
VanceS: for exmaple I may use LT
RobertWB: There are lots of broadcasting systems out there, but someone has to
pay for the server.
DennisOl: Bob: I don't know any of the particulars about it. I just thought
folks would want to have the website.
DavidWe: Yes. the server software tends to cost money
JuanaAB: the link doesnot open,Dennis
RobertWB: and that is based on the bandwidth used.
DavidWe . o O ( and the server )
DavidWe nods
DavidWe hopes there will be some monetary contributions to the bagel and coffee
fund
RitaZ: and donuts!
DavidWe . o O ( quarters? )
DavidWe . o O ( yes, and donuts )
DafneG: it opened here, juani
Maggi: vrtua.l ones?
DavidWe didn't know that Rita has such a sweettooth
JuanaAB: let me try again
RobertWB: Or you might could sell advertizing for the event sufficient to get
funds for the bandwidth.
DavidWe: Real ones work better in NYC parking meters, in my experience
VanceS: anyway, if i choose to b/cast on LT then in the program it will direct
people to go there
DavidWe: This is pretty low-key event, Bob, but thanks for that idea
DavidWe: Cool, Vance
DennisOl: Juani: I opened it in three different browsers.
JuanaAB: not here
VanceS: now it might be useful if Jeff is awake if he would channel what I say
at LT and webcast it
VanceS: that can be arranged
DavidWe smiles
VanceS: that way people could HEAR me and not have to register with LT
VanceS: but Jeff would have to stay awake 48 hours to accommodate all requests
DavidWe wonders where ALL the donuts went
DavidWe offers to make more coffee for Jeff
ClaireB hands david money to cover the cost of doughnuts
VanceS: so in this beta version we'll just work on an ad hoc basis
JeffLe: Webcasting LT content is very doable and my alarm clock is pretty
reliable.
VanceS: and Andy can do some of this as well
DavidWe thanks Claire and goes to refill the platter
RitaZ . o O ( loves Dunkin donuts with cream! )
BeeD is brewing some strong Brazilian coffee
DavidWe will save more of those Dunkin' donut coupons
JeffLe: I could hook up with some remote partners elsewhere on the globe to
activate the stream
DavidWe: Oh, man! Brazilian coffee
DafneG: What time will the event start, Vance?
VanceS: Incidentally, Global Learn Day IX October 9, 2005
http://bfranklin.edu/gld9/
VanceS: the event will start whenever the first presenter is ready
VanceS: Nov 18 / 19 means maybe Nov 17 in some parts of the world
VanceS: I don't feel too time-bound
VanceS: just giving dates for point of reference
VanceS: meaning about that time
VanceS: I'll write up a CFP and send it to the webheads outlets
RobertWB: So this time of day would be three fourths of the way through the
whole thing.
===========================
DavidWe: Have any of you had real Turkish coffee - with the
finely ground coffee "Mud" at the bottom of the cup?
ClaireB: oh yes
RitaZ: terribly strong!
JuanaAB: Yes,me,too.
DavidWe: I have a Turkish coffee pot, but I've never used it
JuanaAB: too strong for me
DavidWe: My friend who studies Ottoman history (and teaches in Tel Aviv, Israel)
bought it for me at the bazaar in Istanbul
VanceS: coffee is just the thing yuo need
VanceS: to brainstorm a conference theme
DavidWe smiles
LeeB left the room (signed off).
VanceS: Bee keeps reminding us
VanceS: we'll need a thems
VanceS: theme
BeeD: yes
VanceS bows to bee
BeeD: ABC
DavidWe . o O ( easy as 1,2,3 )
RobertWB: BeeD what about an element that precedes the get together via blogging
or maybe something in that ELgg space you spoke of.
BeeD: ABC easy as 1,2,3?
DavidWe . o O ( Jackson 5 song )
RobertWB: Something asynchronous.
BeeD: we could blog about the preparations
VanceS: what works and what's beta in online collaborative education
RobertWB: or pick subjects that will be presented at the conference.
BeeD: reflections on a conference
RobertWB: sort of pre conference preparation.
AidenY: I think i've been absent for a long time, I don't even what ABC is.
VanceS: for a CfP to be written now, I'm thinking what to tell people this will
be about
AidenY: I think i've been absent for a long time, I don't even what ABC is.
DafneG: lol
AidenY: even know...
VanceS . o O ( aiden can say that again )
RitaZ: lol
BeeD: hehehe
AidenY: see, my stuttering is coming bbbbaack
RobertWB: Bridges.
VanceS: which of Aiden's kids is this really?
RobertWB: Bridges accross continents.
AidenY: lol
RobertWB: Bridges across time.
VanceS: not bad bob, worldbridges even
VanceS: bridges in cyberspace
RobertWB: Oh , World bridges is already taken isnt it Lee.
RobertWB: Jeff....not lee.
DafneG: lol
VanceS: I was just doing word associations
RobertWB: Maybe he would let us borrow it.
DavidWe . o O ( Bridges of Madison County? )
BeeD: lol
RobertWB: World bridges would be good.
AidenY: lol
JeffLe: Speaking of Worldbridges, just wanted to Dave has
just gone online with this week's EdTech Talk at
http://worldbridges.com/livewire/
DavidWe looks
JeffLe: All are welcome... to tune in, skype in, and bring bagels...and donuts
RobertWB: When is it.
RitaZ: thanks, Jeff!
DavidWe: Shall I register, Jeff?
VanceS: now I take it
JaneAP joined the room.
DavidWe waves to Jane
DavidWe: Hi, Jane. Welcome
BeeD hugs Jane in Canada
JaneAP: Hi There! I'm in Denver Colorado right now!
DafneG: Webheads Bridging the gap: F2F-Online
JaneAP: Visiting my cousin
AidenY: hi Jane
DavidWe waves to Jane's cousin
VanceS: you just tune it
VanceS: tune in
VanceS: hi Jane / cousin
JaneAP: What's the discussion this morning?
DavidWe: well, food, coffee and other things...
DavidWe: some educational topics, too
JaneAP: The coffee is delicious...thank you! I needed it
ChristinLo joined the room.
DavidWe waves to Christine
JeffLe: Starting off with a discussion of using 'clickers' in class
DafneG: we are talking about a Webheads Online conference, Jane
ChristinLo waves
RobertWB: I am listening as we speak.
VanceS: the use of clickers in classrooms
ClaireB: must go catch a plance -- bye to all until next week!
JeffLe: Then a discussion of moodle and using other Discussion forums in classes
ClaireB: plane
DavidWe waves bye to Claire
DavidWe: Ciao
RitaZ: bye, Clari!
DafneG: bye, Claire take care
RobertWB: Could you explain clickers again.
DennisOl: Tchau, Claire.
VanceS: what is a clicker? one of those frog things?
ClaireB left the room (signed off).
DavidWe grins
BeeD: clickers?
RobertWB: Like voting devices....polls.
JaneAP: How do clickers work...I don't understand what they are
VanceS: like, do you understand ?? click clickclick click .. (silence) click
click
DennisOl: I've used them, Bob. What are they actually called?
DafneG: I am listening too
RitaZ: and me..., no idea
AidenY: CyberBridges
BeeD: scissors
RobertWB: I wish there were a way to text in a question.
BeeD: grasshoppers
BeeD: click
RobertWB: Cyberbridges sounds good.
JaneAP: Do you mean students who are multi-tasking while we're teaching
DennisOl: Look at this:
http://gadgets.engadget.com/entry/1234000847043471/
BeeD: Webridges
ArnoldK joined the room.
RitaZ: im quoting : wireless remotes that feed data to a computer
JaneAP: Thanks for the link, Dennis.
BeeD: Webhead bridge across cyberspace
DennisOl: My pleasure, Jane.
JuanaAB: none of the links open in this computer,I will have to restart
JuanaAB: BRB
JuanaAB left the room (signed off).
JaneAP: Have any of you used clickers?
DennisOl: Yes--to give input in meetings.
VanceS: not me
JaneAP: with students or with faculty?
AidenY: Bridge over troubled waters :-)
RobertWB: What if everyone had a clicker, and the world was all wifi...
DennisOl: This is what the link that I posted says about them: "We’ve seen them
take over some TV shows, allowing studio audience members to cast votes or help
out contestants. Now “clickers” — wireless remotes that feed data to a computer
— are catching on in schools from the Ivy League down to grade schools. In a
typical classroom scenario, students can vote on an issue posed by a professor
and have the results tabulated in realtime. Fans say the devices lead to more
discussion and interactivity in classrooms, but we’re waiting for a hack that
will let students electronically stuff the ballot box or even alter the
questions on the fly.
AidenY: wwooooowwww
RobertWB: Then you could vote on any issue anytime.
VanceS: let's stage a click-in at the whitehouse
JaneAP: Are they really more efficient than a show of hands?
DennisOl: I've mostly used them in faculty gatherings, but they're very useful
with students, too. I haven't used them myself because they have to be checked
out at my school.
JaneAP: Does the school buy the clickers?
RobertWB: Nothing could be sicker, than me and my clicker.
BeeD: lol Bob
AidenY: Gotta go, hubby's picking up me in 10 minutes. party time!
DennisOl: Enjoy, Aiden!
RitaZ: liked the rhyme, Bob ;-)
JaneAP: Bye Aiden!
AidenY: can someone upload the transcript somewhere?
RobertWB: Bye Aiden, nice to see you.
VanceS: have fun
BeeD: ciao Aiden
RitaZ: bye, Aiden!
VanceS: volunteers for uploading??
DafneG: bye Aiden, it was nice being with Joy at Alado on Fri :-)
VanceS volunteers
AidenY: you too, guys! yes, upload and let us know in YG where it's uploaded
RobertWB: Rita, its actually from a song about Jerry Springer by a local gal in
Texas, Terri Hendrix.
AidenY: yes, Daf and tere, and Paddy were there during the trial session
RitaZ: thanks, Bob, must listen to it
RobertWB: I can see using clickers in scenario learning.
AidenY: it was fun, you guys were great
DennisOl: Here's a photo showing someone getting ready to use clickers in a
presentation:
DennisOl:
http://www.ryerson.ca/lt/development/distspeaker/Pychyl_04/pychyl_picture1.htm
BeeD: BTW...I have received a mail about an event
here in Brazil...and was wondering whether it would be a good idea to present
something about the webheads then...it is in October...need your help and advice
DennisOl: The clickers are lined up on the right-hand side of the table.
DafneG: now they are talking about something I know, Moodle
AidenY: ok, time is clicking away, 5 minutes to dress and put on makeup!
AidenY: bye guys, this time for real
RitaZ: enjoy, Aiden!!
DafneG pushes Aiden away
BeeD: check it out:
http://www.expoelt.com/index.htm
DafneG: otherwise she will get one of those looks
AidenY got pushed out
AidenY left the room (signed off).
BjB joined the room.
DennisOl: This looks really interesting, Bee.
RitaZ hugs BJ
BjB hugs warmly
RobertWB: Look at all the advertizers on that website.
BeeD: It does, doesn't it?
BeeD: But do not know whether I will have the courage to give 1 and a half hour
of presentation f2f...lol
BeeD: unless you all help me :-)
RobertWB: Oh Bee, you would do fine.
RitaZ: what can I do for you, Bee?
VanceS: if you call on webheads you will be supported
BeeD: thanks...I was thinking of doing it f2f with an online support
BeeD: do not know whether they will be plugged to the net though
VanceS: ahhh, hmmm
JaneAP: Bee, I don't see a date on the site...when is it?
DavidWe hugs Bj
BeeD: End of October
VanceS: we can all stand by our fax machines
RobertWB: Oct 27-29
BeeD: would be nice advertising for the conference in November
JaneAP: You must be the Queen Bee of ELT in Brazil!
BeeD: no way Jane...
BeeD: This looks like an Argentinian thing Rita...have you heard of it?
JaneAP: Oh no?
RitaZ: why, bee?
BeeD:
http://www.expoelt.com/about.htm
LeeB joined the room.
DavidWe waves to Lee
RitaZ: ah, yes, Bee, its a well known group of people here
ArnoldK left the room.
BeeD: I got it through Braztesol
JaneAP: Interesting that the headquarters are here in Denver
RitaZ: having a special knack for organizing congresses, I presented in one in
Bs As 3 months ago..., big commercial thing
DennisOl: I imagine a Net connection could be arranged through the hotel--but it
would probably be expensive.
BeeD listens attentively
JaneAP left the room (signed off).
BeeD: I'd have to ask
JaneAP joined the room.
RitaZ: incredibly gifted people for joining other peolpe....;-)
BeeD: These are the rating criteria for the papers:
http://www.expoelt.com/call.htm
VanceS: I was listening to the webcast
DafneG: I am listening to it, too
DennisOl: In some local and regional TESOL conferences here in the U.S., for
example, any presentations that require special hardware or a Net connection
have to be arranged by the presenter.
RobertWB: Its pretty good, but I still miss the text chat on the side.
DafneG: right, Bob
DafneG: it is nice to be able to comment on what the presenter is saying
LeeB: I agree Daf.
VanceS: yes, we're all experimenting
DafneG: I think it happens in most TESOL conferences, Dennis
DennisOl: I also agree.
VanceS: you can skype jeff can't you? and participate that way?
DennisOl: But the difference is that in large conferences, presenters make
arrangements through a provider. What I'm talking about is having to make all
the arrangements by oneself.
LeeB: What link are you on for the webcast?
RitaZ: need to leave, dear folks...., have a good week you all! (or CU later at
Bee's...?)
DennisOl: I'm planning to present in Denver and/or Salt Lake City in the fall,
for example, and will need to take laptops and a projector with me. If I want
Web access, I'll also have to arrange for it through the conference venue (in
Denver, a large hotel).
BeeD: Yes Rita...Graham is on tonight
RitaZ: great, bee, will be there, Bye all!
DennisOl: It sounds fascinating, Bee. I hope to be there as well.
DavidWe: Ciao, Rita
DavidWe waves
DennisOl: Take care, Rita.
BeeD: hmmm...I'll have to check on that one Dennis...because if I there is no
connection, it is difficult to talk about the webheads...can always do a PPT and
project what has been going on..
DennisOl: Yes, a PPT would work.
RitaZ left the room (signed off).
BeeD: with screen shots and all
DennisOl: Yes.
BeeD: but the fun would be to do a workshop and get the people connected with
others all over the world
DennisOl: Hear, hear!
DafneG: I did not have connection in my presention at the VenTESOL convention in
Maracaibo, last month, it was difficult, but I was lucky enough to have Doris
F2F
DafneG: but of course, it was very different from my pres in Sevilla and Ceta
where I had WEbheads online
RobertWB: Im gonna have to bail on everyone....phone is ringing and I have
things I have to do.
RobertWB: See you all next week.
RobertWB: bye now
DennisOl: I remember, several years ago, doing a number of presentations on
websites, but simply showing colored transparencies.
DavidWe waves bye to Bob
DavidWe tips his hat
DennisOl: Take care, Bob.
BeeD: see you later (will you be there tonight Bob?)
BeeD: for Graham's presentation?
RobertWB: Bee that is my plan, but I am sort of at everyones mercy today...they
all want a piece of me.
RobertWB: But ill do my best to make it.
VanceS: cya
VanceS: ah blogstreams
RobertWB: Im sure it will be a good session anyway....and if I dont make it, Ill
at least read the transcript.
LeeB: Bob, before you go, are you using iNEED? I downloaded
it and it looks great. I have not used it yet
VanceS: what time?
RobertWB: INEEN...yes.
LeeB: Oops.
VanceS . o O ( I think it's too late for me ... )
BeeD: 21 GMT
DafneG: what is INEEN?
BeeD: The transcript will be archived
LeeB: It is like Skype but seems to have more features. I will get the link.
BeeD: all the special sessions are
DafneG: I will try to make ti this afternoon, Bee, it is 5 pm for me
DafneG: thanks, Lee
BeeD: ok Daf...I think Graham has done some good work on it
LeeB: http://www.ineen.com/
RobertWB: INEEN is open source SKYPE and closer to ture VOIP>
DafneG: thanks :-)
BeeD: Does anyone know how to record a conversation on Skype or YM?
RobertWB: you can get more people on a call, and it has it's own recording
capability.
DafneG: have you tried the new Beta YM?
BeeD: I have it now
RobertWB: Records converstations as an MP3
DafneG: I will check it out, bob and lee
BeeD: INEEN records the conversations Bob?
DennisOl: Thanks, Lee.
RobertWB: My INeen number is 2003331
BeeD writes it down
LeeB: My number is 2014004 if you want to experiement by calling.
BeeD: Thanks Lee
DennisOl: INEEN seems to have LOTS of possibilities.
RobertWB: Got it Lee.
DafneG: I will try it later today. I have too many things open right now
RobertWB: Ill watch for you online..
RobertWB: Im gonna be giving a presentation in Augus on VOIP in Knowplace.ca
DafneG: multitasking as usual
DennisOl: Today's session has been especially informative. I've added lots of
bookmarks and have a lot of things to learn about and play with. Thanks,
everyone!
RobertWB: I will know much more about it by then.
LeeB: I will also look for you.
RobertWB: In two weeks, I am giving one on Folksonomy and Tagging, Visual
Language, Radio and Podcasting.
RobertWB: Intros to....
RobertWB: Weekend of July 4th.
DennisOl: Folksonomy???
DafneG: you are a very busy guy, Bob
RobertWB: as opposed to Taxonomy.
LeeB: I tried to call others not on line through their phones and I could not do
it but I think it will be allowing free calling to regular phones soon.
BeeD: Bob is everywhere!
VanceS: I must go people
RobertWB: I have been cloned....
RobertWB: I gotta go too.
DafneG: bye, Vance, see you
LeeB waves bye to Vance
RobertWB: bye all and happy day to all.
VanceS: bye all
BeeD waves bye
LeeB: Bye Bob!
DennisOl: I look forward to hearing more about the conference, Vance. Ma'a
salaama!
RobertWB left the room (signed off).
JaneAP: I have to go too...it's been short and sweet. I've been so busy lately,
I've sort of lost track of Webheads
VanceS left the room (signed off).
