Chat with students Ying Lan from Taiwan, Felix from Brazil, and Castor and Antonio from Mexico - and teachers Vance, Michael and Maggi

August 6, 2000

It was a holiday in the UAE, the occasion of the anniversary of the leader of the country, Sheikh Zayed, to the throne. Vance's son Glenn was visiting from California and Glenn and his mom, Bobbi, were heading for the gym and pool on Vance's day off, so Vance only spent a short time chatting and left. Maggi, with her broken leg, stayed on until Michael appeared, and Michael and Maggi met Antonio, from Mexico, who happened along. Somehow, Michael happened to meet Castor at the Palace, and he sent us the log.

I missed the chat on Sunday. I came a bit late and everyone had gone except Maggi. Even Vance had gone early! But then I met a new person in the Palace - Antonio from Mexico. And then Ying Lan came back and Ying and I and Antonio had an interesting chat about language learning, kids, crying, and other things. You can read the logs when Vance puts them up.

Antonio is thinking of joining our group so if he does please make him welcome. - Michael Coghlan

MichaelC: @64,64 !It's MichaelC

Castor: @64,64 !It's Castor

* Castor * Hello there!

Castor: Is this the English class?

* Castor * Are you there?

* Castor * Hello.

MichaelC: Hello Castor.

MichaelC: Have you been here long?

* Castor * Hello. I guess you must be the teacher, right?

* Castor * Well, actually yes.

* Castor * Over here it's 8:18 am and I thought the class was at 8:00

MichaelC: I am one of the teachers. Everyone else left about an hour ago!

MichaelC: Where are you?

* Castor * Mexico City

* Castor * And you?

MichaelC: I'm in Australia.

MichaelC: How did you hear about this class?

* Castor * Because I went to your website.

* Castor * I had bookmarked your website long ago and it wasn't until yesterday when I visited it.

MichaelC: Great! What time (GMT) does it say for the class on the website?

* Castor * 2:30

* Castor * Which is 8:30 for me.

* Castor * Is there something wrong with it?

MichaelC: Well the class usually starts at GMT 12.00 noon. Which website (URL) did you see this time?

Castor: Hang on, I'll give you the URL

MichaelC: I just found it - it says from 11.30 - 13.00 GMT. It's now 13.24 GMT

Castor: http://www.study.com/schedule.html

MichaelC: OK - that URL!

MichaelC: That info is probably wrong. Sorry. Have a look at this URL - http://www.homestead.com//vstevens/files/efi/webheads.htm

Castor: Sorry, what is it again?

MichaelC: The study.com url is for EFI. A group of EFI teachers and students made this new class and community - http://www.homestead.com//vstevens/files/efi/webheads.htm

MichaelC: It's a long one! Did you get it?

Castor: It says the address does not exist (that's because there were some extra characters in the address Michael gave out - Vance)

* Castor * Anyway, is there another class later on today?

MichaelC: Hang on - try this URL - it should take you to the same place: http://www.netword.com/webheads

MichaelC: I don't know about classes later today. Are you a teacher or a student?

* Castor * Student.

* Castor * Sorry, what was the last url?

MichaelC: Your English is great! Anyway, why don't you have a look at that website and maybe you'd like join this community? The URL is http://www.netword.com/webheads

* Castor * Thank you very much.

MichaelC: There are instructions on that website about how to join. Can you see the site now?

* Castor * Yes I can.

* Castor * But it's downloading some missing software in order to display the site.

MichaelC: Hmmm....what software is it downloading?

* Castor * Vector Graphics Rendering (VML)

* Castor * And how long have you been teaching here?

MichaelC: Strange - there is nothing fancy on that page. Maybe try something else. Go to my homepage - http://www.chariot.net.au/~michaelc/ - and then click on webheads.

MichaelC: I have been teaching here for about 3 years.

* Castor * OK, wait a sec.

MichaelC: This time it will automatically download and intall some software - hearme.com

MichaelC: It's very quick and easy. It's for real time talking.

* Castor * I am there.

* Castor * It's a voice chat or sth.

MichaelC: I'll go there and see if I can see you!

* Castor * OK
