Learning HTML
How can you use it in creating simple websites of your own

What is the topic of my project and why have I chosen this topic?

HTML which stands for Hyper Text Mark-up Language. It's a programming language which people use to create the look and layout of all the documents on the web using special HTML instructions known as tags. I have selected sites that present some HTML tutorials and some informations on how to create webpages using HTML. A criteria given by our instructor Mr. Vance Stevens was used to evaluate the sites.Click here to view the criteria.

Here are some web pages that are relevant to my topic:

HTML - An interactive tutorial for beginners (Dave’s site).

Rating:64

This site presents balanced, easy to read informations with clear expressions and no mistakes, the information of this site are easy to browe and find. Moreover, the site is free, plus there is contact informations avaliable, and one more thing that makes it good is that its up-to date.
but all of these features are not enough to consider it a good one. For example: the information of the site are revelant but it doesn't answer the question of my project completly. In addition to that, there is few references and links to refer to. Moving on to the authority, the authority seems ok but the user can't really tell weither its from a trusted institution or not. Another thing is that it got a commercial domain name (com), for that reason there are too many pop-ups. One last thing, the graphics, in this website, there is no use of the graphics at all.

Rating:80 (Highest rating)

This site presents a detailed overview of too many things. I will start stating its positive aspects. Starting with its information, the information are accurate, its satisfies my project requirment, the information are from a trusted authority, in addition to that they are easy and clear, easy to browse or look for. Secondly, there is contacts in case if there is an inquiry or a question. And finally, the site is not a commercial site, it's free, there is no commercials or pop-ups (domain=org).
While, on the other hand, this site shows very few negative aspects, specifically two only. One; there was a date given but out of date, and two; no graphics.

Teresa’s Guide to Learning HTML - Stanford University.

Rating:68

The site in general was good in its information, the authority, well presented, educational site (domain=edu), all free. It's a good website that can be used as a source for learning HTML.
What caused its rating to be a bit low is that the site wasn't up-to date. No contacts. Too many links, which can confuse the user. And as the other two previously mentioned sites, there was no use of graphics.

This page is a part of my instructor's website. It's a page that got a simple tutorial that teaches the user how to create simple HTML file. The information were clear, easy to understand, easy to browse through. It answered my question completely.
It got a low mark because some of the categorizes for the criteria which we used to analyze the sites didn't apply to the site like the domain name (com), no reference for the information, and there is no graphics.
I think that the quality of the information of this site are good, in fact they are excellent. It can be used as a model of a good website.

Conclusion:

The page that seemed more relevant to my project was website no. 3. I gave it a rating of 80. It was good in most of its aspects except in the things mentioned in the previous table. The information is accurate, relevant, balanced. Moreover, the author was from a trusted authority, there was a link for the contacts information. Furthermore, the site was easy to read with clear expressions and no mistakes, the information are easy to browse and find. And finally, it’s not a commercial site (domain=org), its all free for all of its users. In general, the site is excellent.
