What is the topic of my project and why have I chosen it?

Many people like their homepages to look fancy. This can be done by adding pictures and colors. Also, adding animation is really a nice feature to add to one's website. It attracts the eyes and gives the page a nice look. I have searched the internet for websites which teaches how to use GIF animator 5 clearly, giving instructions and diagrams to make it easier to understand. Furthermore, the websites should not be used as a way for advertising the product. I evaluated these sites according to a criteria given to us by our instructor Mr. Vance Stevens. Finally, I ranked these websites according to how useful they were to me.

The site presents a lot of tutorials for creating flash animations. The website is fairly easy to navigate and to find information. Furthermore, it is divided into further categories: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Links to the homepage and contacts are also provided. In addition to that, the graphics that are supplied make it seem an easy process to make animations. Check the following link to make a barber pole animation. Ulead GIF Animator Tutorials, Ulead Systems

This is the official website for ‘GIF Animator 5’ so it is the most trustworthy among all 4 websites. There are some good but few lessons about the program, as well as it provides a trial version for those who want to check the program before buying it. Also, links to updates, technical support, and FAQ’s are given on the right column.

This site gives a very nice introduction at the beginning about the program. It provides little tutorials with very basic aiding graphics. Very useful links are provided at the bottom of the page which is related to the topic. It is clear that the website is trying to sell the program because there are a lot of advertisements and pop-ups. Furthermore, the website is updated frequently. This link is related to the topic which talks about GIF Animator 5. However, it doesn’t answer the research question which was learning how to use the program. It is very obvious that the website is only for selling the program.

Conclusion

The page that seemed to be the most related to my topic, and was rated 68, was ‘The Animation Station, THE PIRC NETWORK’. I thought that the official website for GIF Animator 5 ‘Ulead Systems’ would be the best among all because it is the company which manufactures the product. However, THE PIRC NETWORK website answers my research question about learning how to make flashes using Flash Animator 5. It provides a lot of explanation and graphics on how to use the program which makes it really easy to make nice flashes. Furthermore, many links are provided to reference the information and its main purpose is not to sell the program.
