Vance and Ying-Lan were in the Palace in a room that M'teer told us about where we should have been safe from intrusion, but we were beset upon by a perverted character who managed to follow us there and slip in before we could lock the door, and he forced to flee the Palace. We retreated to ICQ and continued our conversation there.

Ying-Lan: hi Vance.
Vance: Oh Hi, Ying-Lan
Ying-Lan: Porch
Vance: Porch??
Ying-Lan: Nice to meet you again
Vance: Nice to see you.
Vance: Gosia was online a moment ago and said she'd be here in 20 min.
Ying-Lan: ^I don't understand what you were talking about the room of the campus by email.
Vance: OK, press ctrl-G
Ying-Lan: ^Am I late?
Vance: No, right on time
Vance: Do you have a room list?
Ying-Lan: ^Ctrl+G like "Find user" of the the Option.
Ying-Lan: Where do we go?
Vance: Cntrol G is "go to a room" under options
Vance: But if you select it, or type ctrl-G, you will see a room list
Vance: Do you see it?
Ying-Lan: ^Yes, I did.
Vance: Can you find dorm room #2?
Ying-Lan: Yes I do
Vance: Let's not go there yet ... but ...
Ying-Lan: ^You mena Dorm Room2?
Vance: If we need a quiet place we can go there
Vance: Yes, Dorm Room 2
Vance: When I was here last time, I met a wizard who showed me that place.
Ying-Lan: Now, or later?
Vance: later
Ying-Lan: Wizard?
Vance: This is the site for a Philadelphia radio station
Vance: and they have people here to make sure that everyone behaves properly
Vance: So one named M'teer was very kind and showed me the room #2
Vance: It has a lock on it.
Vance: That means we can go there and lock the door and no one else can get in.
Vance: You can go look if you want.
Ying-Lan: ^Do you know how to control the lock or unlock??
Vance: Yes.
Vance: You'll see a lock inthe upper right hand corner of the screen.
Vance: If you click on it, you lock it.
Vance: So we can wait here for a little while and go there if we need to.
Ying-Lan: all right.
Vance: Sometimes other people come to this place
Vance: So how have you been?
Ying-Lan: How have you been .... = how are you?
Vance: Yes,
Vance: But "have you been" means from the last time we met until now.
Vance: are you >>> have you been
Ying-Lan: ^I don't want to cheap you... I am in black time of my life.
Ying-Lan: ^Everything is too bad.
Vance: oh, what happened?
Vance: Job? Boyfriend? Parents?
Ying-Lan: ^Nothing... I find I lost myself. I can not judge something.....
Vance: You mean you can't make a decision?
Ying-Lan: ^I don't know what is right or what is wrong... I can not make any decision.
Ying-Lan: ^I am afraid to make a wrong decision.
Vance: What do you have to decide?
Ying-Lan: ^It is hard to say...
Ying-Lan: ^Stocks...
Vance: You don't have to tell me if you don't want to.
Vance: Oh, money ..
Ying-Lan: ^money...
Vance: Do you have a lot invested in the stock market?
Ying-Lan: ^I work at ab bank..
Ying-Lan: ^Yes, I do.
Ying-Lan: ^I am so regret about that.. I wish I had not been in Stock markets.
Vance: Does it look like you might be losing money, or are you trying to decide on a risky trade?
Ying-Lan: ^I just lost my money.
Vance: That's terrible.
Vance: Did the companies go out of business, or is their stock just down?
Ying-Lan: ^Do you know why I am single? I refuse to decide who is Mr. right...I am afraid of the future.
Vance: But you are still young. At least, in America, you would be young.
Ying-Lan: ^I am afraid of failure.
Ying-Lan: ^Failure always happens in our life.
Vance: Everyone is afraid of failure. That's a healthy characteristic.
Vance: Don't you have some successes too?
Ying-Lan: ^I think I ask myself too much.
Vance: Do you mean you ask too much of yourself?
Ying-Lan: ^I couldn't find any success in my life.
Vance: Well, you're a good writer.
Ying-Lan: ^I ask too much of my life.
Ying-Lan: ^Really, thanks.
Vance: Do you mean you are ambitious?
Ying-Lan: ^I love monery more than writing...
Ying-Lan: ^ambitious?
Ying-Lan: no
Vance: What do you love more than money?
Ying-Lan: ^My parents.
Ying-Lan: ^and myself.
Vance: That's a good answer.
Vance: You still have both, don't you?
Vance: I mean, if you lose your money, your parents and yourself are really yr strongest assets.
Ying-Lan: ^But it is very ridiculous... I can not sleep.
Ying-Lan: ^Sorry, Vance. I don't understand what were you talking?
Ying-Lan: ^I love my parents more than money.
egg: hello
egg: :)
Vance: I meant that you still have two of the three things you care for most in life.
Vance: Hi egg
Ying-Lan: ^Yes.
Ying-Lan: hi egg.
Vance: And as we say in English, "Two out of three is not all bad."
Ying-Lan: ^I understand what happened in my soul... I can not forgive myself...that is the main reason.
Vance: Sorry Egg, you arrived in the middle ...
Ying-Lan: ^I can not forgive myself to go to buy stock and lost my money.
egg: it's ok
Vance: Do you have responsibilities to others who will be affected?
Ying-Lan: ^I don't know how to forgive myself.
egg: )Amen
Vance: Many people lose money at one time in life and regain it in another.
Ying-Lan: I hope so
Ying-Lan: ^But We lost both money and happy.
egg: how much have you lost?
Ying-Lan: ^.....??????
Vance: Happiness is a state of mind, not of finances.
egg: how much money have you lost?
Ying-Lan: ^I know...I can control my emotion under any circumstanc... But now I am scare.
Ying-Lan: ^Sorry. Egg. It is hard to say.
Vance: Do you live alone or with your parents?
Ying-Lan: ^I am scare...
Vance: scared
egg: is it more than 10k?
Ying-Lan: ^I live with my parents.. they forgive me.
Ying-Lan: ^I can not forgive myself.
Vance: Do they have their own money?
Ying-Lan: yes
Vance: Are you completely out of money?
Ying-Lan: Not really
Vance: You have a good job, right?
Ying-Lan: ^I think I just hate myself... Yes, I have good job...I work at a bank.
Vance: You must have learned something from your mistakes, something that will benefit you in the future.
Ying-Lan: ^Thanks Vance.

<ying> hi
<Vance> Hi there, I'm going to move my Palace avatar back to the campus main area, hang on a sec ...
<Vance> Short Dick is one of the people we were supposed to escape.
<Vance> But I think he was able to find us from his users list
<ying> I see
<ying> He is a bad guy?
<ying> he is gone.
<Vance> I guess the lock didn't keep him out since he followed us
<Vance> He's out here in the campus gate area
<Vance> But it doesn't matter
<ying> ^I think so.
<ying> My mother said I am thinking too much.
<Vance> And egg? I'll see if he's out here
<Vance> He's gone too. go on ...
<ying> I know that I am thinking too much. But I can not stop it.
<Vance> Yeah, you can't cry over spilt milk
<ying> Do cry for the spilt milk...
<Vance> You can, but it doesn't do any good.
<Vance> So you have to go on, move up, be positive ...
<Vance> Think constructive things, think how you can make the best of it.
<ying> I am stupid. I can not read, writing...
<ying> I am dead thinking.
<ying> Btw, I want to ask you how to build my own homepage.
<Vance>
<Vance> Bahia was going to join us today to learn exactly that.
<ying> I try to write the story about Nordkapp... but there is blank in
<ying> my mind.
<Vance> Have you been to Nordcap already? Or are you going there ..
<ying> by Icq?
<ying> I have been Nordkapp last year (1997).
<ying> It is not my key-point.
<Vance> You went there last year. (English lesson) Went is for events that are finished.
<Vance> Your key point? Your main point? The main reason you want to write?
<ying> I went there last year.
<Vance> Oh, English, not your main point ok
<ying> But I went to say another story at another village where
<ying> is closed the Nordkapp.
<ying> It is not my main point.
<Vance> You want to tell another story about another village which is close to Nordcap.
<ying> right.
<Vance> You want to write about this other village ... ok
<ying> I want to tell another story about another village which is
<ying> close to Nordcap.
<Vance> Do you use MS Word?
<ying> I can not think these idea in English.
<ying> I use MS word.
<Vance> Why don't you write it up and email me your version. I'll correct it.
<ying> I try
<Vance> If you use ms word, you can "save as html"
<ying> But I don't know how to start it...
<Vance> That makes a web page.
<Vance> We've already started one.
<Vance>
<ying> When I saved the file as html, I will lost something...
<ying> like art words.
<ying> hi
<ying> vance
<Vance> ok .. you might lose a background, are words, yes, you lose word art. Is that important? You could great word art and make a graphic from them, like the way I got your picture off the palace
<Vance> hi, still there?
<ying> I am here.
<ying> use photo shop?
<Vance> ok, I'm going to have to go soon. it's my wife's birthday
<ying> fine.
<ying> Say "Happy Brithday" to her.
<Vance> I use Thumbs Plus. You can download it from http://www.cerious.com. You should try it.
<Vance> I can tell you how:
<ying> how?
<Vance> 1. get the word are on the screen the way you like it
<Vance> 2. press PrtSc
<Vance> (that puts the screen image in the buffer)
<Vance> 3. Open start / accessories / Paint
<Vance> 4. Press ctrl-V (That puts the screen image in the Paint window)
<Vance> 5. Save the file as a bitmap file (file.bmp)
<Vance> 6. Open the file in Thumbs Plus
<Vance> 7. Crop it (that means select only the word art)
<Vance> 8. Save the cropped area as a jpg file (easy to do in Thumbs Plus)
<Vance> 9. Import it into your web page in Word
<Vance>
<Vance> Easy??
<ying> I am not sure.
<ying> just try.
<Vance> You can save the buffer when you exit ICQ and you will have the instructions. I'll save my buffer and have them too.
<Vance> OK
<ying> It is time for dinner, isn't it?
<ying> o.k.
<Vance> Once you start a web page, you can get free web space at http://www.geocities.com
<Vance> OK, don't lose any more sleep
<ying> Thanks.
<ying> I will send you my story before I start a web page.
<Vance> smile, make friends, thank your parents
<Vance> ok, I'll help you with it.
<ying> Thanks you.
<ying> Thank you very much.
<Vance> You're welcome
<ying> Have a good night.
<Vance> See you
<ying> bye
